Bespoke Process

Commissioning a Bespoke Piece

At Hawthorn Leather, each bespoke commission is approached with the same care, precision and attention to detail as our core collection.

Whether you require a refined everyday carry item or a deeply personal heirloom piece, the process is structured to ensure clarity, quality and craftsmanship at every stage.

Initial Enquiry

Begin by outlining:

  • The type of item you require

  • Intended use

  • Preferred leather and colour

  • Any specific features or dimensions

Where possible, include reference images or sketches.

Consultation & Design

For fully bespoke projects, a design consultation is undertaken to refine:

  • Dimensions and proportions

  • Internal layout and functionality

  • Leather selection and weight

  • Stitch detail and finishing method

Complex commissions may require a design fee, which is confirmed in advance.

Quotation

Following consultation, a fixed quotation is provided outlining:

  • Materials

  • Construction approach

  • Estimated production timeline

  • Total project cost

A 50% deposit is required to secure the commission.

Craftsmanship

Each piece is handcrafted in our workshop using traditional techniques and carefully selected materials.

Due to the nature of handmade leatherwork, minor natural variations are to be expected and are part of the character of the finished piece.

Completion & Delivery

Upon completion:

  • Final images may be provided where appropriate

  • Remaining balance is due prior to dispatch

Lead Times

Bespoke commissions typically require 2–6 weeks depending on complexity and current workshop schedule.

Investment

As each piece is individually designed and constructed, pricing reflects the time, materials and craftsmanship involved.

Bespoke projects typically begin from £150.
